Koch, Chun, Knobloch & Associates, Inc. was established in 1946 and has been
operating without a break in service since that time. The corporation is
licensed for engineering service in both California and Nevada and is certified
as a California Small Business Enterprise.
The company was founded by Carl R. Koch P.E. in 1946. Joe R. Chun P.E. joined
the company in 1949, and became a partner in 1965. During that time the company
completed designs on a number of California landmark buildings; the Sacramento
Sutter Club, Sacramento County Library and Administration Building, Sacramento
County Courthouse, Tahoe Truckee High School, Foothill High School, Columbia
College, Channel 10 KXTV Station, the Sacramento Bee, Sutter General Hospital,
Sutter Memorial Hospital, and Sacramento County Hospital which subsequently
became the University of California Davis, Medical Center. In 1970 Mr. Koch
achieved emeritus status. Between 1970 and 1987 Joe R. Chun was owner and
President of the company, than known as Koch-Chun and Associates. The company
continued to influence power and lighting design in California with the Lincoln
Plaza and the Capital Bank of Commerce high rise buildings in Sacramento.
As California changed with new technological industries and the increased use of
personal computers in business and the classroom, the company experienced
similar growth and change. In April 1987 the company became Koch, Chun,
Knobloch and Associates with Senior Design Engineers Donald R. Knobloch Sr.,
Donald R. Knobloch P.E., Steven A. Carpenter and Marlene Chun Lukenbill being
added as partners to the firm. Staying on the leading edge of technology, the
company added computer aided drafting and design techniques to its established
computer program. It purchased and designed software to meet its own custom
requirements. The years 1987 through 1997 presented new building challenges
with an increase in data processing and computer center projects. Significant
projects included the McClellan AFB Aircraft Accessory Complex, Modesto
Irrigation District Energy Management Center, Sacramento Municipal Utility
District Energy Management Center, The California State Franchise Tax Board
Phase II, McGeorge School of Law Remodel, and the Merced County Courthouse.
Steven A. Carpenter, President and Donald R. Knobloch, Vice President assumed
full ownership of KCKA in 1997. They continue to lead the company with the
established principles of client centered service and the incorporation of the
best technological advances available in electrical building design.
